About the Role

Purpose of the Role

As a Retail Area Support Officer, you’ll uphold a safe, secure atmosphere across multiple retail sites. Key duties include:

  • Acting as a visible deterrent to crime, anti-social behaviour, and security risks.
  • Delivering exemplary customer service while professionally managing incidents.
  • Responding rapidly to alarms, raids, and operational needs.

This is a mobile role—you must demonstrate adaptability to work across sites, shifts (including evenings/weekends/bank holidays), and different operational requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Security & Patrols

  • Maintain a strong visible security presence to deter theft and risks.
  • Conduct regular store patrols, ensuring heightened safety and vigilance at all times.
  • Monitor CCTV/alarm systems, identifying and responding to suspicious activity promptly.

Incident Management

  • Carry out searches in compliance with company policy and legal standards.
  • Fast emergency response to alarms, incidents, or escalations—collaborating with management or authorities.
  • Ensure timely, accurate incident/observation reports documenting all interactions.

Customer & Team Support

  • Provide a approachable professional presence for customers, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with directions, queries, and general support as requested.
  • Calmly and effectively de-escalate confrontational situations.

Collaborative & Administrative Tasks

  • Work alongside store teams to mitigate security issues and support loss prevention efforts.
  • Adhere to all site procedures, company policies, and legal requirements.
  • Support the broader security team, complying with guidance from Site Supervisors or Security Managers.

Essential Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Valid [SIA Licence]—either Door Supervisor (DS) or Security Guarding.
  • Strong observational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proactive, reliable approach with a focus on safety and customer service.
  • Flexibility for multi-site coverage, including travel between locations.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
