Retail Area Support Officer
Mobile Retail Security Officer – Barnsley
About The Role
Working arrangement: This is a mobile, multi-site role requiring flexibility to support operational needs across Barnsley, with shift patterns varying by site requirements. SIA Licence is mandatory.
We are seeking professional, adaptable Mobile Retail Security Officers to support multiple supermarket locations in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Your role involves protection of people, property, and stock while serving as a highly visible deterrent to retail crime, all while delivering excellent customer service. This is a mobile position, meaning flexibility is essential to cover various stores, respond to incidents, and support locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mobile Retail Security Officer, your core duties include—but are not limited to—
- Providing a high-profile security presence to deter theft, anti-social behaviour, and store-related incidents
- Conducting regular patrols across shop floors, entrances, and store perimeters
- Monitoring CCTV systems to promptly identify and address suspicious activity
- Acting fast and appropriately to incidents, alarms, and emergencies
- Carrying out pat down or bag searches in line with company policies and legal requirements
- Collaborating with store management and local teams to mitigate risks and enhance loss prevention strategies
- Generating clear, accurate, and timely incident reports
- Ensuring a professional, approachable experience for customers—assisting with queries when possible
- De-escalating challenging situations with calm professionalism
- Maintaining full compliance with health & safety, legal, and client-specific procedures
- Traveling between sites as necessary to support wider security operations

Requirements
The ideal candidate must meet the following:
- Right to work in the UK, with a passable enhanced DBS Check and adherence to BS7858 security standards
- Valid SIA Licence (either Door Supervisor (DS) or Security Guarding), plus relevant security experience
- Full UK driver’s licence and the use of one’s own vehicle* (contract-specific terms apply)
- Previous experience in retail security or customer-facing roles (strongly preferred)
- Strong observation and decision-making abilities
- Confidence in handling confrontation and conflict situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A reliable, proactive, and professional mindset
- Flexibility to work across multiple locations and varied shifts
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays
