Retail Area Support Officer
Mobile Retail Security Officer – Huddersfield
About the Role
Working Pattern: Mobile, multi-site with flexibility required to support operational needs across Huddersfield (shift patterns vary by site). Key Requirement: Valid SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or Security Guarding) is mandatory.
We are seeking professional, adaptable Mobile Retail Security Officers to protect valuable supermarket locations. This is an exciting, fast-paced role ensuring variety every day across our network.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as a high-visibility deterrent against theft, anti-social behaviour, and security incidents.
- Conducting daily patrols of store floors, entrances, and perimeters.
- Monitoring CCTV systems, identifying suspicious activity in real time, and escalating reports.
- Responding quickly and effectively to alarms, incidents, and emergencies.
- Conducting pat-down searches in accordance with policies and legal guidelines.
- Collaborating with store management and loss prevention teams on security strategies.
- Completing detailed incident reports with promptness.
- Delivering professional, customer-focused service whenever required.
- De-escalating conflicts in a calm and controlled manner.
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety, legal, and operational procedures.
- Frequent travel between sites and supporting wider security initiatives.
Responsibilities
As a Mobile Retail Security Officer, you will:
- Provide a visible security presence to prevent retail crime and protect assets.
- Patrol shopping floors, entrances, and storage areas during operating hours.
- Operate CCTV systems, tracking and alerting on any concerning behaviour.
- Intervene immediately in incidents or emergencies, ensuring safety and reducing risks.
- Comply with applicable laws and company policies during searches, detentions, or conflicts.
- Work closely with store management to report security breaches and liaise on proactive measures.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, camera footage, and site inspections.
- Resolve customer queries with excellent service, while remaining professionally approachable.
- Safely navigate and resolve challenging situations with minimal disruption.
- Maintain adherence to OCS’s high standards of governance, health & safety, and security.

Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Have legal rights to work in the UK and pass an enhanced DBS check and BS7858 security clearance.
- Hold a valid SIA Licence (as either a Door Supervisor or Security Guard). require proven retail security experience (or a similar customer-facing role is desirable).
- Hold a UK driving licence and demonstrate independence in mobilising between sites* (own vehicle required).
- Demonstrate strong observational and decision-making skills for assessing risks in real time.
- Show confidence in handling potential conflict while maintaining professionalism and control.
- Exhibit clear, articulate communication skills for verbal and written reports.
- Exude a proactive, reliable, and professional attitude with adaptability.
- Be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays across different locations.
- Be eligible to travel—and if necessary, live—in or near Huddersfield.
