About the Role
Majestic Wine Haslemere are seeking a dynamic, ambitious and driven Assistant Manager to support their Store Manager in driving sales performance, maintaining operational standards, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
As a Majestic Assistant Manager, you will:
- Manage day-to-day store operations and performance.
- Upskill junior team members to ensure they perform at their best.
- Optimise KPI performance while upholding high customer service standards.
Job Specifics
- Contract: Permanent
- Hours: 44 per week
- Requirement: Willingness to work evenings, weekends and some evenings.
- Driving: Mandatory. Applicants must hold a full UK manual licence for at least 12 months (max 6 penalty points). Company vans provided.
- Salary: £29,080.48
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Store Leadership
- Act as an ambassador for Majestic Wine, ensuring every customer receives a market-leading shopping experience.
- Take responsibility for the store and team when the Store Manager is absent.
- Maximise sales opportunities and drive KPI improvement by identifying key metrics and devising growth strategies.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, fostering loyalty through VIP concierge support, personal recommendations, and engagement (e.g., product updates, tastings).
- Sell the story, not the discount—share passion for Majestic Wine’s range via:
- Deep product expertise
- Hosted tasting events
- A commercially savvy tasting counter

Team Development & Training
- Support recruitment, management and development of junior staff.
- Mentor and guide team members in product knowledge, encouraging WSET certification progression (Level 2 & 3).
- Be a source of constructive feedback for junior team members, escalating issues to the Store Manager as necessary.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Ensure the physical appearance and maintenance of the store (internally and externally), reporting/escalating issues promptly.
- Continuously seek opportunities to optimise store operations.
- Comply with internal policies, complete mandatory training, and uphold safety, legal and security standards.
Communication & Leadership
- Cascade regional/business updates internally.
- Represent Majestic Wine effectively in all interactions with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Experience & Attributes
- Proven experience in fast-paced retail or hospitality environments.
- Exceptional customer service delivery.
- Strong understanding of retail KPIs to drive growth and improvements.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, solve problems effectively, and excel in high-pressure situations.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
- Passionate problem-solver with a "can-do" attitude.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.

Certifications & Qualifications
- Willingness to pursue WSET Level 2 & 3 qualifications.
- Full UK manual transmission driver’s licence (held for at least 12 months) with 6 or fewer penalty points.
