Deputy Manager Opportunity
About the Role
As a Deputy Manager, you’ll be a key leader in supporting the Store Manager while filling in for them when needed. Your mission? Deliver exemplary customer service, boost commercial performance, and ensure smooth daily operations.
You’ll:
- Set the standard for service, presentation, and teamwork
- Mentor your team and foster inclusion
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked store
- Represent The Works with pride — embodying our values through every action
Most importantly, you’re a Brand Ambassador. Your interactions — from welcoming a new customer to encouraging someone to rediscover their love of reading — turn ordinary moments into lifetime memories.
Your Mission
To excel in this role, you’ll:
- Lead the team to deliver stellar customer service and meet store targets
- Take ownership of stock management, merchandising, and compliance
- Train and coach team members, building their skills and confidence
- Manage the store when the Store Manager is unavailable
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new hires
- Monitor performance and propose sales and efficiency improvements
- Uphold health & safety, cash handling, and loss prevention guidelines
- Cultivate a positive, inclusive team culture

Successful Deputy Managers often have:
- Supervisory or team leadership experience in retail or customer service
- Outstanding communication and people skills

- Experience in high-volume or high-value retail environments
- Familiarity with retail systems and reporting tools
