Retail Deputy Manager

Retail Deputy Manager

Contract & Location

Part-time (18-hour weekly contract)

Why The Works?

We don’t just sell products. We inspire reading, learning, creativity, and play.

You sell the paint that turns someone into an artist. You help light up the page of a book that unleashes an inner author. You supply the games that bring families together. You provide that memorable puzzle book that reconnects someone with a late family member’s love.

You never know who someone will become. Our products make it possible – and with your passion, you’ll help ignite the spark within people, empowering them to reconnect with forgotten hobbies or unleash entirely new passions.

The possibilities are limitless – and they always begin with you.

The Role – Retail Deputy Manager

As a Retail Deputy Manager, you’re a crucial part of The Works family, supporting the Store Manager to lead teams, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and meet commercial targets. It’s a role that thrives on motivation, coaching, and seamless operations.

Your Mission

  • Work alongside the Store Manager to ensure excellent customer service and store performance targets are met.
  • Take ownership of stock management, merchandising, and retail compliance.
  • Lead by example on the shop floor, setting high customer service and team culture standards.
  • Coach and develop team members, offering proactive feedback to drive growth.
  • Step in whenever needed to manage the store independently, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Play a key role in recruitment, onboarding, and employee training.
  • Monitor store performance, identifying opportunities to boost sales and efficiency.
  • Uphold health & safety, cash handling, and loss prevention protocols.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that thrives on mutual respect.

Why We Are All Brand Ambassadors

Being a brand ambassador isn’t professional title—it’s how you embody our values each day.

  • Know the welcoming smile of a customer coming in uncertain, and the clarity you provide that puts them at ease.
  • Feel the warmth of a child discovering a new favourite toy because of your encouragement.
  • Experience the ripple effects of a small interaction: someone reconnects with a creative passion or finds joy in reading again because you believed in them.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
