Retail Development Consultant – Engineering

Location: Onsite in Desford, LE9 Contract: 24 months (potential for extension or permanent role) Hours: 37.5 per week (08:00–16:00, Mon–Fri, some flexibility with start/finish times) Pay:

  • £31.23 PAYE/hr (plus holiday/pension contributions)
  • Up to £42.77/hr under umbrella scheme (depending on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a Retail Development Consultant – Engineering to join a leading global brand in Desford, UK—their flagship Fortune 100 manufacturing site, specialising in off-highway machinery. In this role, you will drive revenue and market expansion for the construction industries machine business by transforming dealer retail operations, enhancing sales and marketing effectiveness, and improving dealer performance to meet critical targets.

Your work will involve collaborating closely with dealers across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to:

  • Improve retail marketing and sales capabilities.
  • Optimise the retail customer experience and operational efficiencies.
  • Align dealer strategies with goals to boost productivity and reduce distribution costs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead dealer retail business transformation, ensuring seamless retail journey steps across physical and digital channels to engage potential customers.
  • Drive growth plans for assigned dealers, including budget development, strategy alignment, and execution—focusing on grow sales of key products through process optimisation.
  • Provide strategic guidance to dealers on:
    • Retail marketing, sales, and customer experience strategies.
    • System and process improvements.
    • Solutions to address dealer performance gaps.
  • Advisor on customer experience enhancements, including market coverage expansion, training, technology-enabled, and bundled solutions.
  • Travel requirement: Circa 30% of the time for stakeholder engagements.

Requirements

Essential:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar retail development or dealer transformation role.
    • Think critically with a growth mindset; able to excel in fast-paced, revenue-driven environments.
  • Proven expertise in:
    • Sales planning & project management.
    • Dealer/distributor development (preferably in B2B contexts).
  • Strong B2B and client-facing skills; experience providing strategic consulting to distributors/dealers.
  • B2B financial acumen—ability to:
    • Analyse profitability drivers.
    • Implement cost-control tactics.
  • Action-oriented: Skills to translate unclear business goals into SMART action plans that deliver measurable results.
  • Persuasive and self-assured—strong negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and build trust.
  • Highly driven & autonomous; thrive in cross-functional, fast-paced teams.
  • Excellent active listening, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office + Excel (advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables).
