Retail Manager

The Cathedral is recruiting for a Retail Manager to be responsible for the successful operation of the Cathedral Retail Shop, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience, maximising retail income and profitability, and leading a team of staff and volunteers.

Situated within the Cathedral Welcome Centre, the Shop forms an important part of the visitor journey being the front of house position and often the first point of contact for any visitor. The shop contributes significantly to the Cathedral's financial sustainability and mission being part of Cathedral Enterprises, the Cathedral’s trading subsidiary.

The Cathedral shop is open seven days a week and is staffed with Shop supervisors each day who are supported by a team of volunteers. The Retail Manager reports to the Cathedral’s Chief Finance Officer and provides a regular report at Welcome Committee meetings.

Role

This role works in partnership with a number of people in our Cathedral community, across staff teams and with volunteers, as well as engaging with people outside the Cathedral including congregation, worshippers and visitors as well as shop suppliers.

Hours

The role is full time (35 hours) worked across 5 days a week although part time (28 hours) worked over 4 days a week is an option for the right candidate. The Retail Manager is expected to work alternate Saturdays and one Sunday a month.

The role is key in actively promoting and supporting the Cathedral's vision of Following Christ in Alban's Footsteps through the delivery of a welcoming, inclusive, and professional retail experience.
