What's the job?
Role Purpose: Taking a leadership role in the Retail Logistics Team, you will support the development and efficiency of the Logistics network across tactical and strategic horizons, moving between short and medium focus on a regular basis (juggling operational priorities with a view up to 3 years out). To focus on the infrastructure requirements, evolving technology solutions, and business needs to support changes in demand and trading proposition (e.g. space requirements for seasonal ranges or solutions for new store formats, Store service improvements). To represent Logistics in cross functional projects and oversee related IT testing and change for the function to ensure focus on our customer needs and service continuity/improvement.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Supporting the Head of Retail Logistics in the leadership of the team and in the structure of the team output
- Act as a sounding board for the planning team and role model how the other areas of the team should collaborate and behave - be the objective ‘honest broker’ if needed
- Responsible for the delivery of short-term strategy and infrastructure, capacity and proposition change management, aligning to the B&Q plan to maximise capacity and support changes in demand / proposition
- Drive continuous improvement in systems. Be part of the planning, business case preparation and implementation of improvements to systems. Oversee completion of logistics related IT testing & change
- Work collaboratively on opportunities & challenges and provide business updates on network performance, risks, & challenges to stakeholders such as 3PLs, Supply Chain, Commercial and B&Q Board
- Work collaboratively with the PMO Teams in Logistics, Transformation and Group Supply Chain & Logistics to ensure projects are aligned and provide the subject matter expertise for the function
- Strive for improvements to service delivery and new ways of working to deliver changes to service proposition, making the most of new technologies along the way. Consider ‘outside the box’ solutions to typical network challenges (e.g. using different retailers to create efficiencies
- Contribute to a high-performance culture that provides high potential talent for our future roles across the Logistics function and enables sustainable knowledge transfer.
- Work with the 3PL teams to drive CI / cost saving opportunities and respond to operational issues or actions highlighted through audit
- Work closely with the H&S teams to ensure BCP plans are relevant and annual tests carried out

What We Need
- Self starting and self motivated, able to influence stakeholders across B&Q, KITS, Kingfisher and 3PL with clarity of requirements and outcome
- Comprehensive experience in a complex logistics environment – able to create a team approach amongst 3rd party and internal stakeholders
- Comfortable with creating challenge and managing conflict
- Understand how to use key data (e.g. KPIs) to inform decision making.
- Demonstrable agile thinker and problem solver, capable of looking at situations through a different lens and proposing non-traditional solutions.
- Understand requirements and solutions; be able to articulate to a range of stakeholders being comfortable in the detail or elevating to summarise
