Retail Project Designer
Location: Melton (near Hull, HU14 3HJ) with national travel Salary: up to circa £50,000 plus car (or allowance) and enhanced benefits
About the Role
We are seeking a fast-paced, commercially driven Retail Project Designer to lead the layout optimisation, structural planning, and nationwide rollout of our high-volume discount food retail stores across the UK.
In this position, you will:
- Focus on spatial efficiency and cost-effective store architecture
- Ensure operational functionality while supporting our low-cost, high-efficiency business model
- Balance technical CAD detailing, durable material procurement, and collaboration with consultants, contractors, and internal teams
- Work closely with acquisition and merchandising teams to align projects with time, budget, and brand vision
Responsibilities
Core Tasks
- Lead design and CAD planning for new stores and refurbishments
- Assess potential new sites, evaluating flexibility, layout, and cost considerations
- Prepare detailed 2D CAD plans for merchandising, store layout, and fit-out
- Coordinate with contractors, partners, and external stakeholders for project delivery
- Ensure statutory compliance for new and existing stores
- Act as the main liaison between Property, Retail, Merchandising, and other teams
- Manage project milestones and sequencing
- Provide expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle
- Support procurement activities by tracking budgets, purchase orders, and invoices
- Assist with site surveys, snagging, and project close-out activities

Requirements
Technical & Professional
- Strong CAD capability (essential core skill)
- Qualified Architectural Technician or equivalent experience preferred
- Proven track record in design-focused project roles, ideally within:
- Retail / Commercial / Property environments
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Project or alternative planning tools
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication skills for multi-departmental collaboration
- Ability to think strategically while working tactically
