Midmer are an expanding construction consultancy providing Project Management, Programme Management, Cost Management and Advisory services. We expertly manage the delivery of our clients' development projects and programmes improving their construction delivery, processes and documentation to lift quality, control cost and accelerate speed. Our team works across multiple sectors. The role
We're looking for an experienced Retail Project Manager to join our growing team and support both new and existing clients. This is a client-facing role you'll be the face of Midmer on live retail fit-out programmes, managing the planning, design and delivery of projects from concept to completion.
The role can be carried out remotely, with UK-wide travel as projects demand.
Day to day you will:
- Build and manage teams of consultants and suppliers, driving the project or programme forward
- Create and maintain project programmes indicating all actions, stage gates and critical-path elements
- Produce clear, timely reports and solve problems before they reach the client
- Manage budgets and direct project / programme schedules
- Interact confidently and competently with stakeholders at all levels
Working pattern
We're open to discussing freelance, part-time or full-time arrangements with the right candidate. We are flexible in how we work and we look for the same in return.

Essential qualifications & knowledge
- Minimum 5 years' proven experience personally managing construction and project delivery from concept to completion, ideally within the retail industry
- Confident creating and managing a project programme indicating all actions necessary for completion, including stage gates and critical-path elements
- Demonstrable, strong knowledge of the construction process, building standards and safety regulations on construction fit-out sites
Required skills and qualities
- Leadership — proven leadership and management from previous roles, with experience of building and directing teams of contractors and suppliers
- Communication — excellent interpersonal skills; able to articulate project vision, goals and expectations clearly to teams and stakeholders, and a good listener who understands concerns and feedback
- Organisation — proven ability to coordinate tasks, resources and timelines, managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering at a good pace
- Time management — able to prioritise, set realistic deadlines, and keep projects on schedule
- Problem-solving — adept at identifying issues early, analysing them and finding effective solutions; able to think critically and make sound decisions under pressure
- Adaptability — a flexible approach to the changing environment of construction and shifting client demands, with a genuine interest in the industry
- Risk management — able to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
- Negotiation — strong negotiation skills for resolving conflicts, managing expectations and protecting the success of the project and team
- Team building and motivation — adept at building a cohesive, motivated team and fostering a positive, collaborative culture
- Financial management — proven ability to manage construction project budgets and direct project / programme schedules
- IT proficiency — confident in Microsoft 365 suite and apps and able to read and interpret construction drawings
- Customer focus — understanding and meeting client requirements is fundamental to how you work
- Attention to detail — meticulous in demanding excellent quality finishes from suppliers
