Role Overview
This role involves predominantly working within a retail environment, with occasional deployment to other business locations. Officers must work across multiple sites within a reasonable distance of their home address.
Deployment details are usually provided one week in advance; however, operational changes may require updates on the day.
The standard pay rate is £12.71 per hour, with higher site-specific rates applied where applicable.
Note: Some retail locations follow an unpaid break policy—affected shifts will be communicated in advance.
Job Overview
To protect our client’s retail stores, customers, colleagues, stock, and assets by delivering a visible, customer-focused security presence aligned with site-specific Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
Key responsibilities include:
- Enabling a safe, welcoming environment for shoppers and colleagues
- Preventing loss, theft, and anti-social behaviour
- Supporting store operations while meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Ensuring customer satisfaction and contract retention
- Upskilling through ongoing training and development
Main Duties
✅ Retail Operations & Customer Experience
- Maintain a highly visible, approachable security presence on the shop floor as a deterrent to theft and anti-social behaviour.
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting customers, distributing directions, and fostering a positive in-store experience.
- Collaborate with store management and teams to support day-to-day retail operations, responding to incidents as needed.
- Monitor store activity to detect suspicious behaviour and proactively prevent stock loss (theft, fraud, damage).
- Conduct patrols of sales floors, stockrooms, and external areas per Assignment Instructions.
- Handle conflict situations professionally, prioritising customer-first solutions.

📛 Loss Prevention & Security Compliance
- Identify, deter, and respond to shoplifting and internal theft in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines.
- Monitor/CCTV systems to support loss prevention and investigate incidents.
- Ensure full compliance with site-specific Assignment Instructions, company policies, and UK legislation.
- Maintain a valid SIA licence (either Door Supervisor or Security Guarding) and a CCTV licence where required—wear it visibly on duty.
- Complete incident reports and notebook entries accurately and promptly.
⚕ Health, Safety & Incident Management
- Promote a safe environment for customers and colleagues by identifying hazards and reporting them.
- Respond quickly and effectively to incidents, emergencies, and first aid situations.
- Use sound judgement and initiative to resolve challenges; escalate if necessary.
- Liaise with emergency services and internal communication teams as required.
- Adhere to check calls and control procedures per site guidelines.
📚 Training & Development
- Participate in mandatory training, including retail-specific security and loss prevention modules.
- Continuously advance knowledge of retail risks, behaviours, and security practices.
- Utilise available technology and reporting tools for performance support.
- Renew SIA licences in a timely manner (ensure expiry is at least 16 weeks before availability).
What We’re Looking For
- Prior experience in retail security, loss prevention, or customer-facing roles.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to stay calm and professional during stressful situations.
- SIA Licence (essential) – either Security Guarding or Door Supervision.
- CCTV SIA Licence – desirable.
- SC Clearance – desirable.
