Retail Security Officer
Work Schedule
This position is based in Whitburn, working Wednesday to Sunday for 37.5 hours per week.
About the Role
As a Retail Security Officer, you will play a critical part in safeguarding customers, staff, and retail stock while fostering a secure and welcoming shopping environment. Your role includes acting as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, delivering outstanding customer service, and effectively managing incidents within the retail setting.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter theft and anti-social behaviour
- Patrol the store and monitor CCTV for any suspicious activity
- Respond to alarms and incidents, escalating when necessary
- Conduct searches where required, following company procedures
- Complete accurate incident and observation reports
- Collaborate with store management and staff on security matters
Customer Service
- Present a professional and approachable demeanour
- Assist customers and staff with inquiries
- De-escalate challenging situations with composure
Compliance & Support
- Adhere to all site procedures, company policies, and legal requirements
- Support the team and undertake additional responsibilities as needed

Requirements
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undergo DBS and BS7858 security clearance
- A valid SIA License (Door Supervisor (DS) or Security Guarding)
- Proven security experience
- Strong observational skills, with the ability to recognise suspicious behaviour
- Demonstrated ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and interactions
- A proactive and professional approach to safety and security
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and evenings
