Retail Store Manager

40-hour contract 🎉 NEW STORE OPENING AT BELLE VALE SHOPPING CENTRE IN AUGUST 2026 🎉

Why The Works?

We don’t just sell products. We inspire reading, learning, creativity and play.

The Works. It literally means everything. And whether you’re engaging with customers on the frontline or supporting our colleagues behind the scenes, your impact can be profound and far-reaching.

This is more than toys, books, and art supplies—it’s about inspiring people to read, learn, create and play. So, with the right passion, it all starts with you.

An Opportunity for Impact

As a Retail Store Manager, you’ll lead your store to success by:

  • Inspiring and developing your team
  • Driving commercial performance
  • Ensuring a welcoming, well-run and engaging shopping experience for every customer

Your mission: Deliver exceptional service, spark brilliant customer conversations, and help shoppers discover products they’ll love, all while keeping the store stocked, safe, and free-flowing. You’ll help create an environment where everything runs smoothly—and everyone feels supported and developed.

Being a Brand Ambassador

Being a Brand Ambassador at The Works is more than a job title—it’s how you bring our brand to life through every daily moment. Whether it’s:

  • Greeting customers with a smile
  • Welcoming people into the store
  • Supporting colleagues with kindness and teamwork
  • Sparking a child’s excitement over a new toy
  • Encouraging someone to reconnect with their creativity or love of reading

Ordinary moments for you? Often, extraordinary memories for our customers.

Practising our values and behaviours means we build trust, awareness, and loyalty—through authenticity and positivity.

The Mission

  • Lead, coach, and develop your team to deliver excellent customer service and meet store targets.
  • Shine as a brand ambassador, representing The Works and inspiring your team to follow suit.
  • Take full ownership of store performance, using data and insights to drive results.
  • Maintain high standards in visual merchandising, stock availability, and store presentation.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new team members to build a high-performing, engaged team.
  • Manage schedules, payroll, and operational tasks for efficient daily running.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, cash handling, and loss prevention policies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture where everyone feels feared for and developed.
  • Collaborate with your Area Manager, fellow stores, and central teams to implement business initiatives and gather shop-floor feedback.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
