40 million people wear spectacles in the UK alone, but the optical industry hasn't changed enough in three centuries. Products are tired, standards are mediocre, and the experience is dull. We're going to change that, and build the world's most customer-centric spectacles company.

The Role:

The Retail Training Manager works as part of The Cubitts Academy and wider Cubitts People Team, reporting to The Senior People Manager. The Retail Training Manager is responsible for the creation, updating and delivery of retail pathways, ensuring that everyone across the store population receives industry-leading development to support them in their roles, enabling them to have the skills required to progress, whilst supporting the wider business to achieve company goals and growth. Adopting a blended learning approach, the Retail Training Manager will spend the majority of time in stores supporting induction, individual and targeted training across Cubitts retail teams. Responsible for spotting opportunities, training design and execution to ensure that we deliver best-in-sector learning and that we develop our people to deliver an exceptional in-store experience for our customers.

Your key responsibilities

  • Training Pathways design and updates. Working alongside the Senior People Manager and Head of People, design pathways that fulfil our training objectives and deliver structured training which supports each role within our retail teams to be the very best.
  • Learning Management System. Be a superuser, ensuring that LMS is utilised to its best potential. Ensure that training is well designed, implemented and completion rates can be tracked and performance is reportable.
  • Induction and onboarding. Own the induction and onboarding training for new joiners, ensuring that everyone receives a warm welcome, receives the support they require to be a successful and productive member of the Cubitts team.
  • Training delivery. Deliver training on a 1-on-1 basis and in a workshop setting to support the Cubitts Academy curriculum. Design bespoke training to support the delivery of company goals, product launches and ways of working. Develop the instore experience (repairs and in-store services) through effective 1-on-1 training and coaching.
  • Compliance training and annual retraining. This role is responsible for the execution and follow-up of all compliance training, ensuring that our shop teams are kept safe and sound. In line with our duty of care, this role will facilitate annual retraining, ensuring that all training standards are met and that annual retraining happens when required.
  • Academy calendar. In collaboration with The Senior People Manager, this role is responsible for scheduling all training workshops across the annual training calendar, monitoring course attendance and scheduling the right amount of training workshops to meet demand.
  • Career progression and succession planning. In order to support continual career development and effective succession planning, develop training interventions to support the development of the retail population from Associate to Store Manager level.
  • Customer Non-Negotiables. Through effective training and follow-up, ensure that Cubitts Customer Non-Negotiables feature heavily across the Academy Curriculum and these are embedded within our culture and ways of working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
