Revenue Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Council Tax team as a Council Tax Officer. We are responsible for billing and collecting over £100 million each year from approximately 80,000 households across the borough. This income is vital in funding essential council services that support our communities.
This is not a typical debt collection role - our approach is balanced, resident-focused, and driven by a commitment to both maximising collection and supporting the financial wellbeing of our residents. We take a modern, holistic approach to collection to tailor our approach and deliver fair, proportionate outcomes.
The role is varied and challenging, with all team members contributing across the full range of Council Tax functions, including billing, collection, and enforcement. A knowledge of Council Tax legislation and its practical application is essential.
You will work collaboratively across Revenues services, including Rents, General Income (Sundry Debt), Housing Benefit Overpayments, and Business Rates, ensuring a coordinated approach to collecting income owed to the Council. The role also involves close partnership working with Welfare services and external organisations to ensure vulnerable residents receive appropriate support. Supporting individuals in financial difficulty and helping them regain control of their finances is a core priority of the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
