Job Opportunity: Home-Working Revenues Officers

About Us

Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking to recruit 2 home-working Revenues Officers.

Positions Available

  • 1 x 37 hour permanent contract
  • 1 x 37 hour 12-months temporary contract

About the Role

You will be part of our award-winning Revenues Team, responsible for either the Collection of Council Tax, Business Rates and Miscellaneous Income accounts (Invoicing & Collection) or for the billing of Council Tax and Business Rates. Full training and ongoing coaching/mentoring will be given. We are looking for individuals who are committed to delivering a quality service to the Telford & Wrekin customers.

Key Requirements

In Revenues you need a broad skill set, as you will be dealing with a wide variety of people, from customers receiving invoices for various services the Authority provide, council tax payers, businesses, benefit claimants, and other support agencies. You will need to be good with numbers, have an ability to interpret and explain legislation, policies, and procedures, and be proficient with using IT systems.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with:

  • An organized approach to work to achieve targets.
  • An ability to deal with customers in a professional, courteous, and unbiased manner to provide a high-quality customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written to be able to explain legislation, policy, and procedures and communicate effectively to customers.
  • The ability to process high volumes of work efficiently and effectively with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge surrounding the legislation for Sundry Debt Income, billing and collection of Council Tax, National Non Domestic Rates, and Housing Benefit Overpayments, is desirable. However, full training will be provided.

Whilst previous experience is not essential, you will require a sound knowledge of education, excellent communication, and customer service skills, along with a proactive approach to all areas of work with a keen eye for accuracy.

As a council employee, you will be expected to demonstrate the Councils Core Behaviours and fully abide by the Health and Safety Policy and the Council’s policies for Data Protection and Information Security.
