Job Summary

In the Department of Health and Social Care, we are proud of our purpose – to enable everyone to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. To achieve this, and create a great place to work, we have four values: we are inclusive, we constantly improve, we challenge, and we are agile. If this sounds like an environment you would like to work in, we would love to hear from you.

You will be part of the HR function, working in the Reward and Employee Relations team. We are a small team with a challenging and busy agenda. It is essential within the role to work closely and build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including in the wider HR team.

This is a great opportunity to join a friendly, collaborative, and supportive team. As Reward and Employee Relations Support Officer, you’ll have a varied job supporting the team in all parts of our day-to-day activities (this ranges from designing the annual pay award to managing the benefits platform). In addition, you’ll take a leading role in managing a quality service through the team’s shared mailboxes, including advising on general pay and benefit queries, facilitating salary flexibility approvals and supporting the relationship with our Trade Unions.

Job Description

The post holder will support the delivery of reward and employee relations services across the department. This includes managing the team’s shared mailbox, supporting the day-to-day delivery of employee benefits, assisting with reward processes, and providing administrative and coordination support for meetings, records and reporting.

The role requires good organisation, attention to detail, confidence handling a range of queries, and the ability to provide a clear, timely and helpful service to colleagues. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and role, in line with business needs and departmental priorities.

Person specification

  • Develop pay and reward policy expertise to respond to a wide range of queries from managers and employees in the department
  • Managing the day-to-day team admin and mailbox, responding, distributing and tracking complex queries to develop management information and inform better policy development
  • Take a leading role in managing DHSC’s benefits offer, including financial administration (tracking spend, raising purchase orders and paying Edenred invoices) and supporting colleagues using benefits such as Cycle2Work, shop discounts and recognition vouchers
  • Facilitate engagement with DHSC’s arm’s length bodies and Remuneration Exits and Governance Committee. This includes collecting and filing items, drafting papers, producing agendas and organising meetings to support senior appointments and exits
  • Facilitate the pay flexibility process, supporting the committee and line managers throughout the process. This includes issuing guidance, working with line managers to prepare suitable cases, communicating time frames and tracking / communicating outcomes
  • Facilitate the monthly Trade Union Partnership Meeting and support relationship management activities, collecting items and producing agendas, organising meetings, taking minutes and tracking actions
  • Contribute ideas and/or suggestions for improving efficiency within existing processes and how the team operates
  • Provide support to various projects and other areas of work, including the senior civil service in-year award rounds.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
