About the Role

This role is embedded in the front-office Responsible Investment (RI) team and works closely with the Head of RI Policy and Implementation to:

  • Develop and monitor Man Group’s RI reporting framework.
  • Maintain and improve RI processes.
  • Oversee the integration of RI concepts into investment strategies.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for RI-related matters across the firm.
  • Escalate issues as necessary and contribute to growing the RI offerings while maintaining oversight of RI risks and opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities

The role supports the Head of RI Policy and Implementation in executing the following responsibilities:

Product

  • Provide RI expertise and oversight on the launch and conversion of funds and strategies, including:
    • Review of product construction.
    • Integration of RI frameworks and offering documents.
  • Manage ongoing regulatory reporting obligations (e.g., SFDR, SDR, and TCFD) and respond to client queries on RI products.
  • Interpret the evolving RI regulatory environment and determine how concepts apply across Man Group’s diverse investment strategies.

Policies and Frameworks

  • Assist in the oversight of Man Group’s RI fund categorisation framework, ensuring alignment with:
    • Internal objectives.
    • Regulatory developments (e.g., ESMA, SDR, and SFDR).
  • Support the development and maintenance of key RI policies, including:
    • Sustainable Investment Policy.
    • Good Governance Policy.
    • PAI (Principal Adverse Impact) Policy.
  • Ensure investment teams are trained on applicable RI frameworks and policies.

Control Framework

  • Support Man Group’s RI control environment across multiple workstreams:
    • Management of the semi-annual PAI assessment process.
    • Annual structured review of RI funds, including:
      • Interviews with investment teams.
      • Document reviews to verify commitment and adherence to sustainability objectives.
    • Act as secretary for the following committees:
      • RI Oversight Committee.
      • RI SYSC.
      • Exclusions Sub-Committee.
      • RI Working Group.
    • Manage the investment override process, facilitating contests to sustainability classifications, including ESG research and maintaining audit trails.

Exclusions

  • Every six months, curate Man Group’s issuer RI exclusions list:
    • Screen using external data.
    • Confirm additions/removals via manual review of company reports, Bloomberg data, and client exclusion lists.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the Exclusions Sub-Committee for review and formal approval before finalisation.

Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including:
    • The RI team.
    • Man’s investment engines.
    • Compliance team.
    • Sales teams.
  • Support integration of ESG factors into existing and new products.
  • Communicate policies and frameworks to internal (e.g., investment teams, managers) and external (e.g., clients, regulators) constituents.
  • Contribute to various ESG governance committees and working groups.
  • Provide flexible support as needed for ad hoc projects, regulatory updates, and emerging RI priorities.

Technical Competencies

  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant field.
  • A competitive IMC, AIMA, or ESG/CFA-level qualification is advantageous.
  • A strong interest in sustainability and its intersection with investment management.
  • Proficient knowledge of investment management principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
