AV Rigger

Position Overview
Responsible for performing rigging activities in a hotel/venue environment while upholding safety and quality standards, per all trade, Encore/property guidelines, and SOP’s. Reports to the Technical Manager, Rigging.

Key Job Responsibilities
Rigging
- Gather and organise rigging tools and equipment per event needs.
- Confirm carpet protection is adhering to local conditions.
- Provide ground rigging support, including staging motors and equipment under rig points, handing up motor chain, tools, and equipment, and spotting lift movements.
- Establish hang-points, connect hoists and attachments to permanent rigging points, and install GAC Flex spanset attachments to truss.
- Run and dress motor cables, administer cable picks, and ensure safety of scenic elements to hang-points, including proper use of truss protection equipment.
- Inspect all cabling tie-offs.
- Check truss bolts for tightness and ensure flown equipment is safetied to the truss.
- Support other trades by raising gear using motors or lifts, ensuring safety at all times.
- Remain on-site until all motors are raised to trim.

Safety
- Observe and maintain all safety concerns during events, escalating unsafe personnel behaviours.
- Verify the power phasing of motor controllers to prevent limit switch defeat.
- Secure and check all elements for safety compliance.
- Must maintain Lift and/or Working At Height certifications and follow manufacturer recommendations for personnel lifts.
- Temporary rigging points can only be made by qualified riggers.
Project Management
- Review and secure advanced rigging plans.
- Identify rigging obstacles and recommend solutions for smooth event execution.
- Assist other technical trades in coordination efforts for seamless floor activity alignment.

Maintenance
- Conduct ongoing visual inspections of all hardware (truss, motors, lighting, sound, projection, personnel lifts).
- Escalate issues and suggest solutions to the supervisor.

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Onsite rigging experience
- Qualified Basic Rigging certification
- Lift Certification
- Lift operation experience
- Ground Rigging experience
- High rigging without harness experience

Work Environment
- Hotel/venue-based work with exposure to varying temperatures and dust.
- Work involves heights, electrical equipment, and ladders.
- May require travel to multiple locations.
- Irregular hours (days, evenings, weekends, holidays) and on-call status.
