Derbyshire offers the perfect combination of stunning countryside, thriving market towns, and excellent links to Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Manchester. Home to part of the world-renowned Peak District National Park, the county attracts millions of visitors each year and provides an exceptional environment in which to live and work.

Derbyshire County Council manages almost 10,000 public rights of way, extending over 5,000 kilometres across the county. We are seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused, and experienced individual to join our Public Rights of Way team and help us maintain and enhance this important network.

The Role

As a Public Rights of Way Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the Council's responsibilities as Highway Authority, helping to ensure that Derbyshire's rights of way network remains safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all users.

Working alongside a committed team of technicians and engineers, you will contribute to the effective management, maintenance, and improvement of the county's public rights of way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve reported issues affecting public rights of way.
  • Assist in the delivery of minor repair and maintenance works across the network.
  • Support the processing of Public Path Orders.
  • Help maintain and update the Definitive Map and Statement.
  • Respond to enquiries from members of the public, landowners, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to service improvements and achievement of team performance targets.
  • Promote excellent customer service and positive engagement with all network users.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
