Job Title: Risers Programme Manager - Brighton, Part-Time
Reporting to: Programmes & Partnerships Lead - Brighton
Remuneration: £30,000-£35,000 (Pro Rata- 0.5 FTE, depending on experience)
Days and Hours: 0.5 FTE, 2.5 days a week. Flexible hours, with availability to work from the Brighton office on team days and occasionally support market stalls on weekends as needed.
Duration: Permanent contract.
Location: Brighton – The Office (1 Market Square, Circus Street, 4th floor, Ansvar Community Hub, BN2 9AS), training spaces, and weekend market locations as needed.

Breadwinners is growing, and we are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated Risers Programme Manager to lead our first-tier employability and well-being programme in Brighton.
The Risers Programme is specifically designed as an accessible first stepping stone for young people seeking asylum and newly arrived refugees (aged 16–24) to build confidence, learn English, and gain initial UK mentoring and training.
In this role, your core focus will be the end-to-end delivery of the Risers programme while providing vital operational support to the Brighton Programmes & Partnerships Lead to ensure our weekend markets and overarching Breadwinners pathway run seamlessly. This is a highly impactful, deeply rewarding role centered entirely on youth engagement, training, and community support.

Key Responsibilities
1. Risers Programme Management & Delivery
- Facilitation: Plan and deliver engaging, high-energy, and highly accessible weekly training sessions for Risers participants, tailored to varying language levels.
- Mentoring Coordination: Match Risers participants with volunteer mentors; monitor, track, and support these relationships to ensure a positive experience for both parties.
- Participant Care: Maintain close, regular communication with participants via WhatsApp and email, ensuring their well-being and voice are at the heart of the programme.
- Recruitment & Referrals: Build and maintain local referral pathways with charity partners and caseworkers to recruit young people from refugee backgrounds and seeking asylum into the Risers programme.
- Pathway Support: Assist in preparing graduates of the Risers programme to transition smoothly into the more advanced "Breadwinners" work experience programme.

2. Breadwinners Programme Support & Professional Development
- Co-Facilitation & Skill Development: Actively shadow and support the Brighton Programmes & Partnerships Lead during weekly Breadwinners training sessions, learning the curriculum and building the skills necessary to lead these advanced workshops independently.
- Operational Assistance: Help the Lead coordinate logistics, communication, and attendance for the Breadwinners cohort.
- Participant Progression: Assist in preparing graduates of the Risers programme to transition smoothly into the more advanced "Breadwinners" work experience programme, acting as a familiar face and supportive bridge between the two tiers.
3. Community Engagement & Impact Tracking
- Volunteer Management: Support the onboarding and day-to-day engagement of local Brighton mentors and volunteers.
- Impact Monitoring: Collect data, feedback, and case studies from the Risers cohort to support the organisation's overall data-driven impact monitoring and reporting.
- Networking & Outreach: With support from the team lead, represent Breadwinners within the local Brighton & Hove refugee support and youth sector networks. Attend local community forums and inter-agency meetings to raise awareness of our programmes.
- Referral Partner Cultivation: Proactively identify, build, and maintain strong relationships with potential new referral partners (such as housing associations, ESOL providers, and local council youth teams) to ensure a steady pipeline of participants.
4. Market Support
- Ad-hoc Weekend Cover: Occasionally provide cover at the Brighton market stalls in the absence of Market Coordinator. This is balanced within your weekly 18.75-hour limit.
- On-the-Job Coaching & Introductions: Conduct warm, structured introductions for new mentors and mentees during their first shifts at the market, helping them settle in. Coach participants and volunteers in real-time to build practical skills in customer service, food hygiene, and stall management.
- New Market Scoping: Work collaboratively with the Brighton Lead and wider team to research, visit, and scope potential new market locations to expand our local footprint in Sussex.
- Operational Liaison: Work closely with the Brighton Lead and the Market Coordinator to ensure stall logistics run smoothly, and that all young people feel safe, supported, and confident during their shifts.

5. Governance & Safeguarding
- Safety First: Strictly uphold and implement Breadwinners' safeguarding policies, health and safety procedures, and code of conduct.
- Reporting: Promptly flag and report any safeguarding or participant welfare concerns directly to the Programmes & Partnerships Lead and senior leadership.
Candidate Skills & Experience
Essential
- Youth Engagement & Passion: A deep, demonstrated passion for supporting young refugees and asylum seekers, with an understanding of the unique barriers they face in the UK.
- Group Facilitation: Experience running workshops, youth-focused training, or interactive group sessions, with a knack for creating a fun, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere.
- Interpersonal Communication: Excellent ability to connect and communicate clearly with individuals who speak English as an additional language, across various platforms (WhatsApp, email, face-to-face).
- Energy & Initiative: A self-motivated, positive "can-do" attitude. Comfortable working independently within a small, fast-paced team environment.
- Safeguarding Awareness: Solid understanding of safeguarding principles as they apply to young people and vulnerable adults.
Desirable
- Tech Literacy: Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive). Experience with or a willingness to learn basic CRM tracking (Salesforce).
- Language Skills: Spoken knowledge of languages common among our participant community (e.g., Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Tigrinya, or Kurdish) is a huge plus.
- Local Knowledge: Existing connections or familiarity with the refugee support and charity sector in Brighton & Hove.
