Risk & Compliance Solicitor (Professional Negligence)

Our National law firm client are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Risk & Compliance Solicitor to join their Risk and Compliance team. This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of regulatory, professional conduct, and risk management matters, with a particular focus on professional negligence, claims management, and regulatory compliance within a legal services environment.

The successful candidate will support the General Counsel and wider Risk team in managing the firm's professional risks, regulatory obligations, claims portfolio, and governance framework, while providing pragmatic and commercial advice to lawyers and senior stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the General Counsel and senior Risk lawyers in the management of professional negligence claims, complaints, and circumstances notifications.
  • Review legal matter files and investigate potential claims, complaints, and risk issues.
  • Prepare instructions to external counsel, insurers, and brokers where required.
  • Maintain claims records, registers, and bordereaux, ensuring accurate reporting and tracking of claims and potential exposures.
  • Assist in the management of disclosure exercises, investigations, and litigation relating to claims against the firm.
  • Support the management of the firm's Professional Indemnity Insurance arrangements, including renewals, notifications, and insurer liaison.
  • Support the firm's compliance with its regulatory and professional obligations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations.
  • Research and draft responses to legal and regulatory queries from partners, lawyers, and business services teams.
  • Draft and review client-facing documentation, including engagement letters, terms of business, outside counsel guidelines, and legal notices.
  • Provide practical and commercially focused risk advice to lawyers and senior stakeholders.
  • Support firm-wide projects, including operational change initiatives, new office openings, and regulatory compliance programmes.
  • Draft internal guidance notes, policies, and communications to support compliance and risk awareness across the firm.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
