Job Description: Capital Risk – Goldman Sachs

About the Role

Our Risk teams develop comprehensive processes to monitor, assess, and manage the risk of expected and unexpected events that may have an adverse impact on the firm. Risk professionals execute critical day-to-day risk management activities, lead projects, and contribute to the ongoing advancement of a robust risk management program. Effective coordination with executive management, business units, control departments, and technology is critical for success.

CAPITAL RISK, as part of the firm’s second line of defense and reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), assesses the firm’s capital management framework, regulatory capital policies, and related interpretations. This oversight includes:

  • Independent review and challenge of capital ratio targets, planned capital actions, and regulatory capital calculations
  • Analysis of related documentation
  • Independent testing
  • Assessment of the appropriateness of calculations and alignment with regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Understanding capital regulations (e.g., PRA Basel 3.1, US capital rules) and determining appropriate capital interpretations
  • Monitoring, summarizing, and challenging the impact of regulatory capital rules on risk appetite
  • Assessing the impact of capital regulation on individual transactions, new products, and business proposals
  • Validation of regulatory capital requirement approaches and calculations
  • Understanding and challenging the firm’s overall capital management strategy
  • Communicating thoughtful analysis on sophisticated regulatory capital matters to senior managers, business units, and regulators

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
