Risk Manager – Project Controls

We are currently recruiting for Risk Managers within our Project Controls Team, based in our Manchester office (Northwest region).
About the Role
As a Risk Manager, you’ll be a key contributor to high-profile infrastructure projects, supporting energy, renewables, defence, rail, and utilities sectors. Your mission will focus on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities

Facilitate risk & opportunity management:
- Identify, assess, and prioritise threats and opportunities.
- Maintain visibility of trigger points for cost profiling, budget allocation, or retirement of risks.

Develop mitigation strategies:
- Create measurable, actionable responses to risks.
- Assess post-mitigation positions to optimise project outcomes.
- Monitor overall risk exposure against budgets and timelines.

Reporting and communication:
- Generate and present clear, timely risk reports with senior-level insights.
- Support strategic decision-making with risk data.

Quantitative risk assessment:
- Understand cost, schedule, and integrated risk models (e.g., contingency planning).
- Demonstrate practitioner-level proficiency in tools like @Risk, Safran, or PRA.

Tools & databases:
- Familiarity with web-based platforms (ARM, Xactium, Predict, Tableau, Power BI).
Requirements

Essential:
- Proven experience as a Risk Manager on major projects/programmes or with blue-chip clients.
- Expertise in risk delivery, including workshop facilitation, threat mitigation, and opportunity exploitation.
- Strong grasp of quantitative risk assessment (probabilistic modelling).
- Competency in Project Controls methodology with an understanding of risk management interactions.

Preferred:
- Attainment or pursuit of IRM (Institute of Risk Management) or APM Risk Certification.
- Experience in energy, renewables, defence, rail, or utilities sectors.
- Knowledge of detailed IT risk controls (SOX compliance) may apply.
