River & Flood Risk Civil Engineer
Civil/Flood Risk Engineering Opportunities – Water, Drainage & Environmental
About the Role

We are seeking Engineers (Degree Qualified) with experience in Water, Drainage, and Environmental Engineering, specialising in rivers and flood defence projects, to enhance our technical expertise and project capabilities across the UK. Our focus includes partnerships with the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, and asset management organisations, covering everything from conceptual design to detailed engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a wide range of civil engineering river and flood-related schemes
- Develop and support business cases for flood protection works
- Create outline and detailed designs for flood projects, including:
- Hydraulic systems
- Flood defences
- Drainage systems
- Ancillary structures (e.g., scour protection, culverts)
- Collaborate with infrastructure clients (internal and external) to design:
- Hydraulic structures (weirs, walls, outfalls, scour protection)
- Projects in highways, rail, and property sectors
- Prepare work schedules and contractor specifications
- Conduct asset inspections for above/ground structures
- Supervise construction works (where applicable)
- Engage with local authorities and environmental organisations

What We Are Looking For
Essential Criteria
- Degree qualified in Civil or Flood Risk Engineering
- Post-degree experience in hydraulic designs for river or flood defence projects
- Strong knowledge of flood and river diversion principles/solutions
- Proficiency in CAD or Civil 3D
- Site experience (ideal with prior supervision roles)
- Excellent written/verbal communication
- Proven ability to deliver successful projects meeting quality and commercial targets
Desirable
- Working towards Chartered (CEng/IEng) or Incorporated Engineer status
