Civil Engineer – Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) (UK)

About the Role
We are seeking Civil Engineers experienced in Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) optioneering and design development, as well as project/programme delivery, to help shape our technical expertise.
Our work spans the UK, with a focus on supporting key organisations such as the Environment Agency, Network Rail, Local Authority Highways Asset Teams, and Local Authority FCERM Programme Delivery. We provide engineering solutions—from concept-stage designs to fully detailed schemes—across sectors including infrastructure, highways, rail, and property.
Beneficial but not essential experience includes:
- Scour assessments and design mitigation
- Local Authority FCERM programme delivery
- Coastal engineering techniques
Key Responsibilities
- Appraising and developing outline and detailed engineering designs for:
- Flood projects
- Scour assessments and solutions
- Flood defences
- Coastal engineering schemes
- Leading technical appraisals, optioneering, and design for a range of complex projects.
- Collaborating with clients (internal & external) to design hydraulic structures (culverts, weirs, walls, outfalls, scour protection).
- Preparing work schedules and contractor specifications.
- Conducting scour assessments and asset inspections of structures (above/beyond ground).
- Working closely with stakeholders, including Network Rail, local authorities, and environmental bodies.

This role targets Senior Engineers (near Chartered) and Principal Engineers (Chartered), based in the Southwest of England.

Essential Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Flood Risk Engineering.
- Post-degree experience in hydraulic designs for river or flood defence schemes.
- Proficiency with CAD systems or Civil 3D.
- Site experience, ideally with supervision responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills: written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, to quality and on budget.
- Motivated to advance towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) status.
(FReg (Flood Risk) accreditation recognised as an advantage.)
