Civil Engineer – Roads Design Role

About the Role
WSP Global are recruiting an enthusiastic and talented Engineer to join their Roads Design team in the London & South East region, based at one of our regional offices: 📍 Cambridge 📍 London (Westferry Circus) 📍 Basingstoke 📍 Guildford 📍 Southampton
This role sits at the heart of a high-performing team, where your technical expertise in roads design will drive both technical excellence and service efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
The role will involve a mix of the following tasks, evolving over time:
- Design and prepare specifications in line with Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
- Develop detailed designs using Civil3D and AutoCAD
- Progress from executing work packages to managing smaller schemes where applicable
- Support Senior Engineers in planning, programming, cost estimation, and client-related technical oversight
- Mentor and guide Graduate Engineers and Apprentices
- Compile and author technical reports as required
- Conduct site visits to inform and validate designs
- Operate across multiple multi-disciplinary projects and client accounts
Key Requirements
We are looking for candidates with an appetite for design innovation and a passion for engineering solutions. Ideally, you'll also have:
✅ A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline ✅ Practical experience with highway design aligned with:
- Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
- TRAffic Signs Regulations and Guidance (TSRGD)
- Traffic Signs Manual
- Local Transport Notes ✅ Design and drafting proficiency in Civil3D/AutoCAD ✅ A familiarity with rivalling infrastructure design tools, such as:
- Bentley software: OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation ✅ Experience with BIM environments (ProjectWise, Autodesk Forma, or similar) is a plus ✅ CAD QA/QC and collaborative digital delivery process knowledge helpful ✅ Progress towards or attainment of professional qualifications (e.g. IEng/CEng)
