Purpose of the Role
We have some great opportunities for Technology Engineer to join the Area 9 team, you will be expected to travel and cover technology assets across the network around the West Midlands.
The Technology Engineers will be part of the Area 9 Maintenance & Response contract with Colas, working on behalf of National Highways. They will deliver both Cyclical and Reactive works they are assigned and will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare and health and safety of themselves and those working around them. They will take an active role in ensuring their own skills and knowledge are up to date and fit for purpose.
Main Responsibilities
As a Technology Engineer you will be responsible for delivering technology cyclical works and response over the course of your shift and carry out cyclic maintenance in line with the Client, manufacturer and British Standards. As part of this role you will be undertaking electronic diagnostic checks on highways communications assets in line with reactive maintenance, preparing reports and documents as necessary and assisting with project administration and control. On a day to day you will be expected to coordinate with third parties with the introduction of new Highways communications infrastructure, to operate small items of plant and other heavier equipment to carry out the works e.g. compressors, Hiab crane and electrical saws etc and enthusiastically identify early opportunities and highlight them to management to the benefit of Colas and their customers. It is important you are able to work on your own and work with others over the course of your shift. We are looking for individuals who are able to adopt a forward-thinking approach by identifying potential innovative techniques and products for the delivery of technology maintenance and be able to highlight these to management. Most importantly you will be responsible for Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities. Report directly to the Technology supervisor on health and safety and progress during shifts you are working on and report to Technology Manager / Supervisor on activities undertaken during shifts you work on. You will perform other duties as may be reasonably required. You will be required to work 42 hours a week on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern alternating from days and nights as required. (percentage uplift for working shifts).

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification in an electrical or engineering discipline, you will have previous experience working as a Technology Engineer on Highway’s, not essential, similar roles in traffic signals or communications will be advantageous.
You Will Have
- UK driving licence (essential)
- 18th Edition wiring regulations (Desirable)
- HERS Sector 8 relevant to role. (Desirable)
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, forward-thinking individual and an effective communicator who has previous experience of working within high performing teams. Good planning and organisation skills is essential in this role. You will be self-motivated and have technical competence.
Package Description
Here at Colas, we offer a great total compensation package, including:
- A salary between £34,000-£38,000 (dependent on experience) PLUS Company car provided. 20% shift allowance for working night shifts. - 42 hours a week
