Rolling Stock Fitter (C4 Technician)
Location: Cardiff
Contract Type: Inside IR35
Rate: £33.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Duration: 3-6 months initially, with potential for extension
Positions Available: 3
Hours: 36 hours per week (Day & Afternoon Shifts)
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for several experienced Rolling Stock Fitters to support a major rolling stock overhaul programme based in Cardiff.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a skilled maintenance team working on the overhaul and refurbishment of a fleet of diesel multiple units. The programme involves the overhaul of 18 units with a planned 20-day turnaround per vehicle.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must possess:
- NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in a relevant mechanical, engineering, or rolling stock discipline
- Proven rolling stock maintenance, overhaul, or heavy maintenance experience
- Demonstrable C4 competency across the majority of the activities listed below

C4 Experience Required
Successful candidates should have experience in most of the following:
- Autocoupler removal and refit
- Intermediate Bar Coupler removal and refit
- Spring Box Assembly work
- Gangway removal and refit
- Gangway Flexi removal and refit
- Valve change-outs
- Bogie disconnection
- Centre Pivot / Pedestal removal and refit
- Hydraulic reservoir and hose removal and refit
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out mechanical overhaul, maintenance, and refurbishment activities
- Working to engineering standards, specifications, and maintenance instructions
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with quality requirements
- Supporting the delivery of overhaul programmes to strict timescales
- Completing all associated documentation accurately and on time
