Roofing Apprentice
A fantastic opportunity for two motivated and reliable individuals to join our team as Roofing Apprentices. You will be learning a skilled trade while gaining hands-on experience working on site alongside experienced roofers.
Wage
- £16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

- Monday - Friday - approximately 7.00am - 4.00pm
- 40 hours a week

What You'll Do at Work
- Install and repair roof coverings
- Assist with stripping and replacing existing roofs
- Measure and cut materials to fit specific roof designs
- Install underlay, battens, insulation, and ventilation systems
- Work safely at height using appropriate equipment and PPE
- Identify and report roof defects or damage
- Load, unload, and organise tools and materials on site
- Follow technical drawings and supervisor instructions
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times
- Support lead roofers with more complex installations and repairs

What You'll Learn
Course Contents
- Work safely and be aware of key health, safety and welfare issues
- Plan and carry out their work to commercial standards of quality and speed
- Move, handle and store resources, complying with relevant legislation and guidance
- Interpret and follow verbal and written work instructions from trade supervisors and site managers
- Select the required materials and resources to carry out the work
- Set up, check and operate plant and/or equipment
- Install related materials and components to a given specification
- Use, maintain and store hand tools, power tools and associated equipment
- Access, interpret and use drawings and specifications to carry out work
- Carry out a range of job tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, finishing, positioning and securing
- Install plain tiles, interlocking tiles, natural slates and fibre-cement slates
- Install underlay, battens and related roofing components
- Install pre-formed lead and/or proprietary flashings
- Install dry and wet fixed products to verges, hips, ridge and valleys
- Install insulation and ventilation products for warm and cold roof construction
- Install roof windows and flashing kits
- Clean, dry and prepare surfaces for specified system
- Install vapour control layers to prevent vapour coming through the building to protect insulation
- Install mechanically fixed and/or adhered insulation as required by the given specification
- Install reinforced bitumen, single-ply and liquid applied waterproofing systems
- Terminate waterproofing systems at the perimeter upstands and/or open edges to the given specification
- Maintain and repair flat and/or pitched roofs (in excess of 10 degrees)
- Install perimeter details (edge trims, counter flashings termination bars)
- Work around outlets, pipes, soil and vent fittings, safety systems and roof lights
- Assess suitability of structure to receive cladding materials
- Install built-up, standing seam, secret fix, composite and fibre-cement systems and rainwater goods
- Maintain, repair and over-sheet existing roofs
- Install flashings, vents, fittings and components as appropriate to the specification
- Work around penetrations and upstands

Training Schedule
- Roofer Level 2
- You will attend Stoke on Trent College's Burslem Campus on a block release - 1 week in 5
- Functional Skills (maths & English) if required

- GCSE in:
- English or Maths (grade Grade 3 or above)
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other Requirements
- The positions are within teams whose staff are based in Newcastle-under-Lyme and West Stoke. Transport can be provided with pick-up and drop-off available from your home address, provided you are located within these areas. Alternatively, applicants who drive must be able to travel to these locations for a 7:00 am start
- You will be required to pass the relevant Health and Safety test to obtain a CSCS card

Our geographical area spans the West Midlands, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire & Cheshire, though we do have a few isolated sites further into the north west area. Currently we specialise in new roof installations for regional and national housebuilders such as Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon Homes & Seddon Homes as well as smaller local developers on bespoke projects and luxury dwellings. We are CHAS, SMAS and Constructionline SSIP accredited and ensure our workforce is fully CSCS compliant.
