The Rope Access NDT Lead Technician
The Rope Access NDT Lead Technician reports to the Integrity Engineer through the Inspection Focal Point and will be responsible for the competent inspection, reporting and evaluation of client in-service equipment. They will ensure that these activities are implemented in a safe and effective manner. They will carry out these duties in accordance with the company procedures and to the high levels of service expected by the company. The Rope Access NDT Lead Technician will strictly adhere to the company’s principles of independence and impartiality.
Tasks
As a Rope Access NDT Lead Technician your activities will include the following:
- Assist in providing an interface between the inspection and integrity engineering teams
- Perform in-service inspection of client static equipment, as assigned by the Inspection Focal Point and Integrity Engineer, including pressure vessels, columns, drums, heat exchangers, boilers, coolers, tanks, valves, and piping systems throughout the plant
- Carry out initial inspection, observing condition and makes preliminary interpretation, following the relevant client specifications
- Act as supervisory resource to Inspection Projects Engineers, Inspection Focal Points, and Integrity Engineer to ensure inspections are completed and integrity of units are fully assessed and provide an effective focal point for Inspection activities
- Work closely with the Inspection Project Engineers as well as Maintenance and Operations team to maintain plant regulatory compliance, effective execution of shutdown, turnarounds, and production targets
- Assist with the input of the anomaly management system
- Review and endorse NDT reports in a timely manner and instigate additional inspections
- Assist in raising MCDR or repair orders, providing a detailed description of the defect, its location, together with relevant up-to-date documentation and photographic evidence
- Carry out monitoring or follow-up inspections as determined by the Inspection Focal Points and Integrity Engineer
- Assist the Inspection Focal Points and Integrity Engineer with the management of temporary and permanent repairs
- Update of the company or clients IDMS and CMMS systems to ensure the information regarding inspections and anomalies is accurate and maintained
- Assist in the preparation of NDT Scopes of Work, coordinate, and supervise NDT inspectors to meet the plant’s safety and quality requirements
- Carry out all work with impartiality and without prejudice towards other parties such as clients, contractors, or members of the public
- Responsible for supervising and conducting witnessing of onsite competency assessments and surveillances, accurately completing competency surveillance documentation and submitting it in a timely manner
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Inspection Focal Points and Integrity Engineer
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by your project team
- Raise permits where required
- Assist in rope access duties / scopes where required
- Liaise with 3rd Party Vendors and other Teams onboard

Qualifications & Experience

- Experience related to in-service inspection that identifies proficiency in preparation and implementation of inspection workbooks, supervision of inspection teams, and anomaly and repair management
- Fully conversant with modern inspection methods and have at least 5 years documented experience in at least 2 primary NDT methods (RAD UT EC)
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with strong interpersonal supervisory and organizational skills
- Experience of working independently and away from home
- Basic knowledge of fabrication, welding, corrosion, and erosion principles
- Comprehensive knowledge of conventional and advanced non-destructive testing techniques
- Current certification in Plant inspection to either CSWIP or ASME Level 1
- Working towards Engineering Technician as defined by Engineering Council or equivalent (i.e. ONC or NVQ Level III)
- Familiar with Industry, Company, and Client specific training / safety critical requirements
- Working towards higher education qualification in an engineering or technical discipline (HNC, HND/BSc preferred, etc.)
- Vocational qualifications in Inspection, plus significant relevant experience in the inspection of offshore plant and equipment (recognised Plant Inspection qualification, Inspection/NDT qualifications, etc.)
- Current NDT Certification in at least 2 conventional primary NDT methods (RAD UT EC) at Level 2 as well as other inspection methods
- IRATA Rope Access Level 1,2,3
