Band 6 Neuro Rotational Band 6 Physiotherapist

Are you an innovative, organised and motivated physiotherapist with a strong interest in neurology? Would you like to work in a friendly and supportive environment with a focus on further learning and developing clinical skills? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 physiotherapist to join our specialist multidisciplinary community neuro rehabilitation service and inpatient rehabilitation service.

Main duties of the job

The team provides ESD stroke and neurorehabilitation for patients recently discharged from hospital as well as rehabilitation and advice for patients living with long term neurological conditions due to either progressive or acquired neurological conditions.

This is an opportunity to develop your clinical physiotherapy practice and deliver evidence-based assessment and rehabilitation on our inpatient rehabilitation ward as well as community settings.

The successful candidate will provide evidence-based, goal-focused rehabilitation. We are looking for a highly motivated team worker with excellent communication skills.

You will need to have postgraduate experience, including substantial experience working in neurology, rehabilitation and experience or an interest in the community setting within the NHS.

Working for our organisation

The Camden Neurological and Stroke Service is currently based at St Pancras Hospital. The team is interdisciplinary and comprises Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Assistants and Speech and Language Therapists. We are a large but friendly team based in Camden, we support staff to be autonomous and will support you in developing your clinical, supervisory and leadership skills. Regular teaching and training are offered per discipline as well as service wide and self-directed learning is highly encouraged.

The remit of the team is to provide rehabilitation for adults with neurological impairment in the community. The team promotes independence and community integration. Work with clients can vary from short episodes of care to longer-term support or rehabilitation, but always follows a goal-orientated approach. The team is committed to a clinical governance programme and team members are encouraged to use an evidence-based practice model and to participate in research and audit programmes.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • To provide an evidence-based assessment, treatment and advisory service to clients with neurological conditions both progressive and acquired such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, MS, spinal cord pathologies, MND.
  • To work flexibly with all other members of the multi-professional team to provide an integrated rehabilitation service to patients in accordance with the philosophy and operational policies of the team.
  • To see patients in our inpatient rehabilitation ward, community outpatient clinics or other settings such as their own homes, or leisure facilities.
  • To manage a varied caseload comprising clients with a range of neurological diagnosis causing neurological impairments that often include musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, cognitive and communication impairments as well.
  • To prevent hospital admission and facilitate discharge from, for example, local HASUs discharging early supported discharge patients following stroke.
  • To participate in departmental continuous professional development, education and training, audit and research projects.
  • To manage a complex caseload using evidence-based clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis.
  • To use a patient-centred, goal-orientated rehabilitation approach.
  • To participate in departmental clinical supervision that is responsive and personalised e.g. can take the form of formal training, clinical reasoning, peer review, case reviews and reflective practice.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • State registration with HCPC
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Relevant Post Registration courses or in-house training

Desirable criteria

  • Membership and/or involvement in National special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience of working in the UK health service or a similar health economy as a Physiotherapist.
  • Significant post-registration working as band 5 or band 6 or equivalent in experience.
  • Experience in a variety of core areas to include Neurology, Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Care of Older people, Community, Musculoskeletal.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working with students or supervising students.
  • Management experience of departmental duties.

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Participated in some form of evidence-based practice e.g. research, audit.
  • Demonstrate ability to use Computers including: internet, word, power point and excel.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Able to direct own study programme.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Active Involvement in CPD, appraisal schemes and supervision.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Understanding the principles of multi-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of holistic rehabilitation of clients with complex needs and disability.
  • Has an understanding of the political and economic situation in relation to health and social care.
  • An understanding of disability frameworks.
  • Ability to independently resource e.g. internet.
  • Able to self-motivate.
  • Able to prioritise.
