About the Role
As a UAS Senior Technician, you’ll report to the Team Leader and play a pivotal role in ensuring the preparation, maintenance, and operation of the diverse Uncrewed Systems assets for Test & Evaluation trials.
Your average working week is 37 hours, based at our Boscombe Down facility with a minimum average attendance of three days per week. Flexible working arrangements are available, including occasional travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution & troubleshooting
- Building, testing, and maintaining Uncrewed Systems (UAS) and payloads in compliance with approved technical data and manufacturer manuals.
- Operating, repairing, and deconstructing systems per approved guidelines.
- Conducting functional assessments and diagnostics to resolve faults efficiently.

Mission Advisory & Compliance
- Ensuring all activities align with Air Publications, OEM guidelines, QinetiQ’s Operations Framework, and CAARegulatory Standards.

Essential Experience & Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in a regulated, aviation/safety-critical environment specialising in Uncrewed Systems.
- UAS flying experience in real-world operational trials.
- Knowledge of several UAS types and their advanced systems (mechanical, electrical, software interfaces).
- Demonstrated ability to learn and configure new IT systems quickly.
- Experience manipulating online manuals and digital maintenance records.
Key Qualifications
- CAA Remote Piloting Certification (Highly Desirable).
- Relevant Engineering Degree or approved apprenticeship (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical).
- Capacity to progress towards EngTech registration (or already registered).
- Full UK Driver’s Licence.

Location – Boscombe Down
Located on UK’s longest military runway, MOD Boscombe Down is a leading centre for aerospace and aviation testing. It supports critical development, evaluation, and certification of military aircraft, contributing to the UK’s aviation defence capabilities.
⚠ Security Clearance Required: Applicants must be eligible for SC (Security Check) clearance, the minimum standard for this role. Existing licenses may transfer if relevant.
