Rural Advisor / Surveyor

Rural Adviser / Surveyor – North England - CLA

Location: North England Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Organisation: CLA North Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Are you passionate about shaping the future of the rural economy? Do you have strong experience in upland land management and a desire to advise, influence and support rural businesses across the North? If so, this is an excellent opportunity to join the CLA at a pivotal time for the sector.

The Role

The CLA North team is seeking a Rural Adviser / Surveyor to provide high‑quality advice to members and play a key role in policy development across land use, rural economic matters, and farming systems.

Working closely with the CLA policy team, you will support landowners, farmers and rural businesses on topics including uplands agriculture, planning, tenancies, diversification, and property management. You will also represent the CLA at stakeholder meetings, consultations, and speaking engagements across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert advice to CLA members on a wide range of land‑based and rural business issues Lead and contribute to policy development, with an emphasis on uplands agriculture and land use Respond to government consultations and influence policy Attend and contribute to stakeholder meetings across the North (full driving licence required) Produce briefing notes, guidance materials, reports and articles Represent the CLA at events, on speaking platforms and within the media when required Support wider marketing and member engagement activity

About You

You will bring: Strong uplands land management experience RICS and/or CAAV qualification (strongly desirable) Broad knowledge of land use, agriculture, environment schemes and rural economic issues Experience advising farmers, foresters and land managers Confidence communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, from policymakers to members Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present Self‑motivation and the ability to work independently and proactively

Location & Working Pattern

Based in the North of England Office attendance required every Monday in Richmond Travel across the North region for meetings, visits and events
