Rural Chartered Surveyor
Chartered Rural Surveyor (Fixed Term Contract)
Location: Exeter
Salary: £56,253.61 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9am–5pm, with flexible working hours)
About the Role
South West Norse, part of the Norse Group, is an award-winning property consultancy specialising in Estate Management & Valuation for local authorities and public sector organisations across the South West Peninsula. With a strong forward order book and a blend of local delivery and national capability, we adopt modern working practices.
Our refreshingly modern open-plan office on the outskirts of Exeter offers excellent access via the M5 corridor, with flexible and hybrid working options to accommodate personal commitments.
We are recruiting for a Temporary Chartered Rural Surveyor to cover maternity leave, based at our Exeter office.
The Estate
The team manages the Devon County Farms Estate, covering approximately 9,500 acres spread across 64 tenanted farms. These farms, let to entrepreneurial new entrants into farming, are a dynamic and evolving part of the agricultural landscape.
Your role would involve:
- Engaging with tenants across diverse and innovative enterprises
- Shaping new lettings and managing repairs/maintenance
- Collaborating on biodiversity and environmental projects
- Supporting highway acquisition schemes with local authorities

Person Specification
We are seeking an inspiring, driven, and creative Chartered Rural Surveyor with:
- Tailored professional experience in rural estate management (private or public sector preferred).
- Proven communication skills to build strong relationships with clients and tenants.
- Flexibility—we’re open to part-time candidates where appropriate.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Fellowship of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV)
- Professional Chartered Membership (MRICS or FRICS) required
- RICS Registered Valuer
- At least 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in a comparable role
- Comprehensive knowledge of:
- Agricultural Holdings Act 1986
- Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995
- Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
- Degree (or equivalent) in a related subject advantageous, or substantial commercial experience
