About the Company

Our client is a leading global financial services firm, scaled by technology and operating across multiple international offices. They are growing their engineering team and hiring Junior Rust Developers to become the next generation of senior engineers.

The Role

This is a hands-on engineering role for developers with 1-3 years of production backend experience in Rust or Go.

  • If you are already writing Rust in production, you will find a team that takes it as seriously as you do.
  • If you are coming from Go and want Rust to be your primary language, this is the switch done properly: Rust from week one, alongside people who know it cold.

You will work on the backend services, APIs, and infrastructure that sit at the core of the platform. Junior here means starting point, not ceiling.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build robust, low-latency backend services in Rust that sit at the core of the platform.
  • Architect APIs and data flows connecting pricing engines, risk systems, and core infrastructure.
  • Take ownership of features end-to-end, from spec through implementation to production rollout and monitoring.
  • Work with async Rust in anger: Tokio, proc-macros, custom tooling.
  • Collaborate across trading, quant, product, and infra teams to turn business problems into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to CI/CD and developer experience. If you can shave 45% off a pipeline, we want to hear about it.
  • Grow fast. You get promoted on merit, not tenure.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • 1-3 years writing Rust or Go in production. Code that shipped and stayed up, not tutorials.
  • If your production experience is Go, you need working Rust knowledge and a real appetite to go all-in on it. Side projects, a published crate, a rewrite you did for fun, or a serious reading habit around ownership, lifetimes, and Tokio all count.
  • A BSc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, databases, and clean API design.
  • Strong analytical thinker. You break problems down, reason from first principles, and measure rather than guess.
  • High self-motivation. You can work independently, drive your own roadmap, and ask the right questions when you are stuck.
  • Strong written and verbal communication: clear PRs, clear specs, clear internal messages.
  • Comfortable working 5 days a week on-site in London.

Highly Desirable

  • A GitHub or crates.io presence: published crates, open-source contributions, or work on compilers, linters, and tooling (rustc, Clippy).
  • Familiarity with cloud and infra: Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Redis, PostgreSQL or MariaDB, OpenSearch, GitLab CI.
  • A track record at hackathons, competitive programming, or technical meetups such as Rust London or the London Gophers.
  • Internships or previous roles at tech, fintech, or trading firms.
  • Bonus points if you have given a talk, run a workshop, or taught. We value people who can explain what they have built.

Nice-to-Have

  • Interest in financial markets or trading. You do not need to be an expert on day one, but you should be curious enough to dig in by week two.

The Stack

  • Language: Rust
  • Backend: Tokio, async services, proc-macros, custom tooling
  • Infra: Azure, Kubernetes

Why This Role

  • Rust is the language, not a side project. Whether you are already writing it or making the jump from Go, you will be shipping Rust from week one.
  • Real ownership, fast. Junior developers ship to production as soon as they are ready and influence workstreams within their first year.
  • Engineering culture. A trading firm that takes engineering seriously. You will work alongside senior engineers who care about correctness, performance, and craft.
  • A market-leading product. What you build will be used by market leaders.
  • In-person by design. A London office with a genuinely collaborative culture. 5 days a week, in the room.
  • Compensation that reflects performance. Competitive base salary plus a meaningful performance bonus tied to firm and individual results.
