Staff Rust Engineer

Central London (hybrid, 2–3 days per week in the office)
£80,000–£110,000 DOE
Permanent, full time

We have partnered with an ambitious, well-funded SaaS technology startup entering an exciting phase of growth who are looking for a Staff Rust Engineer to help shape the technical direction of their platform, working on complex engineering challenges where performance, scalability and analytical thinking are critical.

This is more than a senior development role. You will be a technical leader, influencing architecture, mentoring engineers and working alongside product and leadership teams to build software that makes a real impact, so you will need to enjoy solving difficult problems, thinking deeply about system design and writing high-quality Rust code.

  • Designing and building high-performance backend services using Rust.
  • Leading technical architecture and engineering best practice.
  • Solving complex technical and analytical challenges.
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers through technical leadership and code reviews.
  • Improving the performance, scalability and resilience of the platform.
  • Driving engineering excellence across architecture, tooling and development processes.

You will have

  • Strong commercial experience developing software in Rust.
  • Experience operating at Senior, Principal, Lead or Staff Engineer level.
  • A track record of designing scalable, distributed systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical approach to engineering challenges.
  • Experience making architectural decisions and influencing technical direction.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
