Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting 12-month fixed-term contract as a Specialist Practitioner (Advanced) within the SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) Team.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated nurse with a commitment to improving patient experience and clinical outcomes. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, ideally with experience in hospital-led clinics.
This role provides support and training to develop you towards your Specialist Practitioner (Advanced) status, with progression potential from Band 6 (trainee) to Band 7 (faster-track) if competencies are already met.
About the Role
This role offers a progressive pathway for nurses to develop advanced specialist skills while being part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering patient-centred care in a high-impact supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities
- Provide specialist nursing/AHP support for a defined patient population, working autonomously in a high-impact clinical setting.
- Lead and coordinate therapeutic management of patient caseloads, acting as the named key worker.
- Deliver specialist advice, education, and support to patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Advise and contribute to service development, working across professional, departmental, and Trust boundaries.
- Support and lead clinical initiatives to enhance seamless, patient-centred care.
- Promote effective inter-professional teamwork while maintaining a professional bedside manner.

Development & Training Pathway
- Fast-track progression to Band 7 if essential competencies are already achieved.

- Training framework towards Level 7 Post Grad Certificate (60+ credits) or equivalent within 2 years.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Essential Criteria
✔ Registered nurse or Registered AHP (HPC/HCPC register) ✔ Capable of completing a Level 7 Post Grad Certificate (60+ credits) or Master’s degree within 2 years ✔ Specialist training/qualification in SACT practice ✔ Evidence of:
- Supporting/managing learners in practice
- Leading colleague training in effective learning
- Clinical specialist skills/experience in relevant field
- Policy development & implementation
- Change management, leadership & innovation
Desirable Criteria
✔ Counselling/advanced communication skills ✔ Leadership training/qualifications ✔ Experience as a Practice Assessor or supporting learner challenges
