Company Description
OPOKA CIO provides safe, specialist support to Polish women and their children, helping them improve their lives and build a safer future free from domestic violence and abuse. Services are delivered by bilingual specialist staff and volunteers through helplines, outreach, safe house support, counselling, and group programs. The organisation tailors support to individual needs, assessing and managing risk and working with multiple agencies to reduce and eliminate harm. OPOKA CIO focuses on improving health, safety, financial security, and wellbeing, while raising community awareness and strengthening local capacity to support women and children.
Role Description
The Safe House Support Worker is a part-time role based in Bristol. Must be fluent in Polish and English language. Each day, the post holder supports residents with practical and emotional assistance, including welcoming new arrivals, helping them settle in, and ensuring their immediate safety and wellbeing. The role involves risk assessment, safeguarding, and safety planning, as well as coordinating with external agencies and OPOKA CIO colleagues to secure housing, legal, financial, and specialist support. The Safe House Support Worker provides information, advocacy, and signposting, supports access to psycho-educational programs and group activities, and maintains accurate records and case notes.

Qualifications

- Bilingual (Polish and English).
- Experience in support work or frontline roles (e.g., Support Workers, domestic abuse services, housing or social care settings).
- Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and the ability to build trust with survivors of abuse.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices, risk assessment, and safety planning in relation to adults and children.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate clearly with residents and partner agencies.
- Basic technical support abilities, including confident use of case management systems, email, and standard office software.
- Understanding of domestic violence and abuse, trauma-informed practice, and the needs of migrant and minority communities; Polish language skills are an advantage.
- Ability to work in a hybrid pattern in Bristol, manage time effectively, and handle confidential information in line with policies.
- Relevant training or qualifications in social work, support work, counselling, or related fields are beneficial.
