Job Title: Safeguarding Practitioner Starting Salary: £38,220 progressing to £41,731 per annum Hours: 37 Location: Apsley Contract Type: Fixed term/Secondment Directorate: Adult Care Services

About The Team

This role offers an opportunity for change, personal development, and growth of safeguarding knowledge and skills.

Our dynamic team is seeking Safeguarding Practitioners to join us and contribute to our specialisedAdult Safeguarding work. You will fulfil Hertfordshire County Council’s Adult Safeguarding responsibilities under Section 42 of the Care Act, operating within the Hertfordshire safeguarding frameworks. We uphold the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal in our daily operations.

About The Role

Your practice will be focused on personalisation, ensuring safeguarding responses and actions are person-centred and empower people whenever possible. Your work will be:

  • Responsive: Be attentive to safeguarding concerns while ensuring our actions are inclusive and community-first.
  • Effective and Efficient: Provide guidance leading to positive, individualised outcomes for Hertfordshire’s citizens.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and responding to safeguarding concerns raised.
  • Designing and implementing an effective plan to keep individuals safe in ways that align with the person’s preferences.
  • Gathering relevant information to support informed decision-making.
  • Seeking and recording the views of adults at risk.
  • Conducting capacity assessments and best interest decisions as required.
  • Mitigating risks to individuals’ safety.
  • Contributing to strategy discussions, meetings, and potentially leading investigations or case conferences.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Social Work qualification
  • Proficiency in key aspects of the Care Act
  • Full, valid UK driving licence and regular access to a vehicle

We welcome candidates residing in the UK, with established proof of right to work. At present, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

Secondment Clarifications

This role is open to secondments for appropriate Hertfordshire County Council employees.

If applying as a secondment:

  • You must have manager approval.
  • During the application, state whether this is mutually supported. If your line manager declines your request, your contingent application will be assessed as a fixed-term role.

Without this confirmed, your application may revert to the fixed-term route.
