Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer – Term-Time Role (37 Hours/Week) | Bradford College

Our brilliant Student Support department is looking for an exceptional Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer to play a vital role in transforming lives. You’ll be the first point of contact for students and staff dealing with safeguarding and wellbeing concerns, including mental health issues—providing early help, advocacy, and support to ensure positive outcomes.

This is a term-time post (40 weeks a year), ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference.


Key Responsibilities

  • Student & Staff Liaison

    • Be the first point of contact for staff and students raising safeguarding and wellbeing concerns, including mental health issues.
  • Collaborative Support & Adjustments

    • Work closely with curriculum staff and support teams to help students overcome barriers to learning.
    • Negotiate reasonable adjustments to enable students to thrive academically and personally.
  • Signposting & Advocacy

    • Direct students to internal and external support services, providing advocacy where needed.
    • Support vulnerable individuals, including young people and adults at risk of harm.
  • Resource Development

    • Contribute to creating and maintaining electronic and paper resources that support students’ personal and social welfare.
  • Risk Management & Referrals

    • Conduct and coordinate risk assessments and support plans.
    • Refer students to statutory bodies and external services based on assessed needs.
    • Ensure compliance with best safeguarding practices, including Prevent duty and mental health safety protocols.

  • Flexible & Dynamic Role
    • Work flexibly, including weekend/evening shifts if required.

Qualifications & Training Requirements

  • Safeguarding/Mental Health qualification at Level 2 or above, or relevant experience.
  • GCSE Maths 4–9 (C+) or equivalent. If not acheived, willing to test level at interview and meet set timescales thereafter.
  • GCSE English 4–9 (C+) or equivalent. Same testing/timelines apply.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in:
    • Education, Social Care, or youth work, including direct support work.
    • Working with young people/vulnerable adults at risk.
    • Partnership-focussed roles (e.g., Children’s Services, CAMHS, Police).
    • Compiling support plans with individuals/parents, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
