The Safety, Health and Environment Apprentice
The Safety, Health and Environment Apprentice plays a key role in supporting the organisation to operate safely, responsibly and in line with legal requirements. The role focuses on working with managers and operational teams to provide advice and guidance on health, safety and environmental practices across the business.
Apprenticeship Information
- Level: 3 Safety, Health and Environment Apprentice
- Duration: Approximately 24 months + EPA
- Hours: 40 per week
- Annual Salary: £22,048 (The advertised salary applies to the first year of the apprenticeship and will increase in the second year, subject to satisfactory progress, attendance, and commitment to the programme)
- Qualification: Delivered through an approved training provider
- Study Time: Dedicated study time provided as part of your working week
- Support: Ongoing support from your manager, mentor, and training provider
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on health, safety and environmental requirements
- Support the implementation of company policies, procedures and legal requirements
- Promote safe and responsible working practices across the organisation
- Assist in identifying workplace hazards and supporting risk assessments
- Help monitor compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations
- Support audits, inspections and checks to ensure standards are maintained
- Assist in developing, reviewing and maintaining safe systems of work
- Support the implementation of SHE management systems and processes
- Help ensure procedures are followed consistently across operational activities
- Support delivery of training sessions, inductions and toolbox talks
- Communicate key safety messages clearly to different audiences
- Help build awareness and understanding of SHE practices across teams
- Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses
- Support gathering information, analysing data and identifying trends
- Help produce reports and present findings to the management team
- Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety and environmental performance
- Support initiatives that promote a positive safety culture
- Contribute ideas to improve processes, behaviours and compliance
- Work closely with managers, employees and external stakeholders
- Support building a culture where safety and environmental responsibility are prioritised
- Influence safe behaviours and challenge unsafe practices where appropriate
- Complete all required apprenticeship training and off-the-job learning
- Participate in regular reviews with line manager and training provider
- Apply learning in the workplace to develop SHE knowledge, skills and behaviours

Qualifications & Training
Essential:
- Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent of Grade C-A*) or Functional Skills Level 2
Desirable:
- Full UK Driving License
