Safety, Health & Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor – Inverness, Aberdeen or Perth
Base Location
For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations—Inverness, Aberdeen or Perth—with an expectation of spending 50% of the working week in the office.
Salaried & Benefits
- Salary range: £50,100 - £75,100

About the Role
SSEN Transmission invites applicants to join their Safety, Health & Wellbeing (SHW) team as an SHW Advisor.
You will primarily support safety in design and planning while working on projects at various stages—design, planning, and pre-construction (e. g. Site Survey, Ground Investigation, Public Road Improvement, Site Clearance, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive and pragmatic SHW & CDM advice across stakeholders and projects during design/planning/pre-construction phases.
- Champion the development and maintenance of Designer Risk Assessment and Design Risk Management through documentation.
- Support Client, Principal Designer and Designer roles to ensure CDM compliance and adherence to Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) procedures.
- Additionally, craft and review Pre-Construction Information (submission to Principal Contractor as required).
- Collaborate with project teams during pre-construction/advanced works, ensuring tailored coordination strategies align with evolving designs during construction phases.
- Execute onsite and offsite assurance activities, refine incident reporting/management processes, and embody SSE’s vision of fostering a healthy, safe, and thriving workplace.

Requirements
Essential qualifications and experience requested:
- Proficient background in construction project Safety, Health & Wellbeing (SHW) aspects and CDM regulations, with a focus on design/pre-construction phases.
- Installation of SHW or related qualification.
- Hands-on experience with safety management system policies/strategies in asset-intensive engineering environments.
- Expertise in qualitative & quantitative risk assessment techniques, with demonstrated application of ALARP principles.
- Knowledge of hierarchy of legal compliance and proactive legislation familiarity within the UK Regulatory/Business arena.
- Strong stakeholder management skills – drive collaboration across internal and external vendors.
