# Safety Team Member – Student Security Position Location: Edinburgh
Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 10:00 PM – 07:00 AM Salary: £32,990 per annum
Make a Difference, Every Night
As a Student Safety Team Member, you’ll be the reassuring presence keeping students and buildings safe, comfortable, and welcoming during late-night hours. This is an opportunity to connect with students, support them in unexpected moments, and contribute to a positive community where everyone feels valued.
No two shifts are alike—whether it’s conducting safety patrols, responding to minor incidents, or simply ensuring students have a smooth transition through the night. You’ll work alongside student-focused teams while upholding Unite Students’ commitment to CARE (Connect, Act, Respect, Encourage).
Your Key Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for students needing support, reassurance, or guidance during late-night hours.
- Maintain safety and security by addressing incidents calmly, such as emergencies, noise disturbances, or maintenance issues.
- Enhance student experience by ensuring a welcoming, inclusive, and empathetic environment.
- Collaborate seamlessly with day and night teams to ensure a smooth handover of service.
- Preserve cleanliness and tidiness in managed buildings while proactively monitoring wellbeing concerns.
- Embed CARE principles into every interaction—connecting, acting with integrity, and encouraging positivity at every level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
