GP Trainer (Salaried) – North-West Shropshire

About the Practice

This is a practice committed to making general practice sustainable and fulfilling. Key features include:

  • A structured working day with a 5:30pm finish
  • A reasonable appointment load and built-in catch-up time
  • A GP assistant job share to reduce non-clinical workload
  • An AI triage system launching soon, easing duty Doctor demand

Tenure in this practice is strong: GPs stay for five to thirteen years on average.

Location: Based in North-West Shropshire, near the Welsh border.

  • Shrewsbury: ~20 mins by road
  • Wrexham: ~20 mins to the north
  • Chester: ~45 mins Affordable living, easy access to open countryside.

The Practice

  • GP Training Practice (registered GP tutors welcome)
  • Dispensing practise (serves ~30% of its patient population)
  • AI-assisted triage soon to be rolled out (reducing online request demand)
  • GP assistant job share (enables more focused clinical work)
  • Daily noon huddle involving GPs, nurses, pharmacist, & admin team leader—true team collaboration
  • Close-knit partnership with five to thirteen-year tenures shared by Partners
  • Small, pooled-list practice with predominantly older, rural patients (low surgical complexity)
  • On-site single-site practice with parking
  • Uses EMIS Web
  • CQC-rated Excellent

Your Role

Position: Salaried GP Trainer (6–8 sessions/week) Essentials: Must work Thursdays and Fridays. Third day for 6-session GPs is flexible.

Working Week:

  • Morning clinic: 8:30am–12pm (14 appointments + two 15-minute catch-up slots)
  • Afternoon clinic: 2:15pm–5:30pm (11 appointments + same catch-up slots)

Extended Hours:

  • One session every 6 weeks (rotated across team), paid £90/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Shared duty doctor cover (AI triage reduces unnecessary personal GP reviews)

Additional Benefits:

Qualifications & Registration:

  • Must be a qualified General Practitioner
  • Registered with the GMC and UK Performers List

Salary & Benefits

  • Sessional rate: ~£11,500 per session
  • Extended hours: £90/hour (for long hours)

  • 6 weeks’ annual leave (pro-rata) + bank holidays
  • 1 week study leave
