Finishing Line Ltd has been a leading hand-fulfilment centre in the UK for nearly 40 years, specialising in efficient eCommerce fulfilment, contract packing, and scalable third-party logistics services. The company supports both established brands and growing SMEs with multi-channel fulfilment, retail and wholesale distribution, and complex hand assembly projects. As a full 3PL provider, Finishing Line Ltd manages storage, pick and pack, distribution, and returns, integrating seamlessly with major sales channels and marketplaces. The team combines experienced people with flexible systems to make outsourced fulfilment straightforward, reliable, and tailored to help clients scale.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Sales Associate role based in Basildon.
Role Purpose
Act as the first point of contact for new business inquiries into the business, a third-party logistics (3PL) provider. The role combines inquiry triage and qualification, CRM ownership, prospect research, and structured onboarding coordination – ensuring the Commercial Director’s time is focused on opportunities that are commercially viable and operationally deliverable. This is an entry-level role with clear scope for development, suited to a driven, proactive self-starter who is eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline & CRM Ownership
- Own CRM accuracy across all prospects and opportunities
- Manage pipeline stages, next actions, and deal progression
- Produce weekly pipeline reports with risks and priorities
Inquiry Triage & Qualification
- Respond promptly and professionally to initial customer inquiries by phone and email
- Triage inquiries against Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) criteria and conduct initial discovery conversations to assess commercial fit
- Assess eligibility and book qualified prospects onto a call with the Commercial Director
- Filter out low-quality opportunities early, ensuring every inquirer still receives a professional experience

Historic Inquiry Review
- Review inquiries received over the past two years to identify prospects worth revisiting
- Re-engage dormant or previously unconverted prospects where there is renewed commercial fit
- Record findings, outcomes, and recommendations in the CRM
Prospecting & Market Development
- Research and identify new prospects with third-party logistics needs (warehousing, fulfilment, and distribution)
- Build and maintain target account lists, with a focus on high-growth eCommerce brands
- Support outbound campaigns and initial outreach by phone and email
Sales Process Coordination
- Coordinate early-stage sales process across teams
- Gather inputs for proposals and pricing
- Ensure commercial and operational alignment
Onboarding & Handover
- Support onboarding of new clients
- Bridge sales and operations
- Ensure scope and commitments are clearly defined
Customer Communication
- Maintain clear communication with prospects
- Support relationship development pre-sale
Success Metrics
Owned – metrics this role is directly accountable for:
- First response to new inquiries within the agreed service level (e.g. two business hours)
- Qualified calls booked with the Commercial Director each month
- Triage quality – percentage of booked calls confirmed as genuinely qualified by the Commercial Director
- Historic inquiries reviewed each month, and re-engagement conversations generated from them
- New prospects researched and added to target account lists each month
- CRM records complete and updated within 24 hours of activity

Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone at the start of their commercial career who wants to grow with the business:
Essential
- Either a graduate (degree in any discipline) with around one year’s experience in a sales, commercial, or customer-facing role – internships, placements, and part-time work completed during study all count – or a non-graduate with at least three years’ equivalent experience
- Driven, proactive, and a genuine go-getter with a strong work ethic
- Able to demonstrate drive and initiative – for example promotion within a part-time role, a self-started project, or a notable personal achievement
- A confident, articulate communicator who is comfortable holding conversations on the phone
- Willing to do the basics well and learn the business from the ground up
- Organised, commercially aware, and coachable
Desirable
- Exposure to, or a genuine interest in, logistics, supply chain, or eCommerce
- Familiarity with a CRM system (e.g. HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive)
- Experience using LinkedIn or online research tools to identify prospects
