I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

⚠️ Progression depends on performance + tenure—consistency and continuous improvement are key.
What Makes a Great BDE?
We prioritise attitude over experience. If you:
✅ Handle rejection like it’s nothing (expect 50+ “no’s” a day—most days!) ✅ Stay coachable – Seek feedback, adapt, and keep improving ✅ Work with urgency – Daily call targets aren’t intimidating ✅ Communicate confidently – Build rapport professionally ✅ See this as a career startup – Not a quick fix ✅ Are ambitious – You want the money, promotions, and self-proving
Former BDEs have come from diverse backgrounds: Retail, hospitality, customer service, call centres, graduate jobs, and more. Mindset, charisma, and hunger matter more.
What Focus Group Offers You
Proper Training (No “Sink-or-Swim”)
- Structured onboarding (product knowledge, pitch training)
- Weekly sales training sessions
- Mentorship from ex-BDEs (because experience counts!)
- Clear performance framework – You’ll always know how you’re doing
