About The Role

The Sales Development Representative (SDR) is a key member of our sales team, responsible for converting leads into potential sales. This SDR will receive leads coming inbound to our website via email, live chat, and inbound calls. They will also learn to use tools allowing them to research new leads independently. They will work in a team environment to foster relationships with clients and schedule meetings for Automation Sales Executives (ASEs) to demonstrate the Opentrons technology and automation solutions.

Their day to day will include:

  • Responding to potential client inquiries
  • Managing our live chat and phone lines
  • Supporting administrative responsibilities for pipeline creation
  • Joining product demonstrations to learn about Opentrons robotics
  • Learning from more senior sales team members

This role works closely with marketing and sales teams to grow the business, and provides an excellent foundation for a career in marketing or sales.

This is a full-time, remote position working UK hours in order to provide timely support to customers in/near the UK and EU. The SDR UK reports directly to the Associate Director, Service Sales & Customer Support.

What You Will Do

  • Pre-qualify leads considering a robotics purchase, and sign them up for a product demonstration with an Automation Sales Executive
  • Be a subject matter expert on Opentrons value proposition and automation solutions
  • Remain on-call for phone and live chat inquiries during business hours
  • Strategize with marketing stakeholders to improve live chat and chat bot playbooks
  • Perform outbound selling activity against inbound lead pipeline
  • Maintain benchmarked daily, weekly, and monthly activity metrics and key performance indicators
  • Qualify potential customers as sales opportunities based on level of interest, scientific application area, and other provided criteria
  • Support Automation Sales Executives as part of the selling team
  • Develop, test, and iterate sales cadence messaging and objection handling across multiple sub-industries and personas
  • Experiment with new means of communication including personalized video messages

Who We are Looking For

Education

  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in Biology, Chemistry, Business or related field

Experience

  • Prior experience in a similar sales support role with a track record of achieving sales quota preferred
  • Prior experience with prospecting and cold calling preferred
  • Prior experience with CRM and other sales software (e.g. Salesforce, Hubspot, etc.)
  • At least 1 year prior experience in life sciences, laboratory work, or robotics strongly preferred

Compensation

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between £35,000 - 50,000 GBP per year plus commission; however base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a full range of medical, financial, pension, and various paid time off benefits, dependent on the position offered. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
