Sales Director in Central Government

Location: London Hybrid
Job Type: Permanent
Sector: Central Government / Public Sector

About the Role:

We are working with a leading global technology and consulting organisation that is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to drive new business growth across UK Central Government and the wider Public Sector.

This is a strategic sales role focused on identifying new opportunities, developing target account plans, building senior stakeholder relationships and winning new business across government departments and associated agencies.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of selling digital services, IT services, BPO or citizen experience solutions into Central Government, with the ability to engage senior decision-makers, procurement teams and policy stakeholders.

This role would suit a proven public sector sales professional with existing senior relationships across Central Government and a strong understanding of government digital transformation priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities within UK Central Government departments and associated agencies.
  • Sell digital business services, IT services, BPO and citizen experience solutions into government clients.
  • Develop and deliver account plans aligned to government digital transformation, citizen engagement and service improvement priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior decision-makers, procurement teams, policy leads and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Create and deliver proactive engagement plans for target government accounts.
  • Lead the end-to-end bid and tender process for government contracts.
  • Ensure proposals are compliant with procurement frameworks and tailored to public sector requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal delivery, technology, bid, marketing and leadership teams to shape compelling client solutions.
  • Monitor government policies, funding programmes and digital initiatives to identify emerging opportunities.
  • Represent the business at government and industry events to build market presence.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, providing forecasts and progress updates to senior leadership.
  • Deliver agreed sales targets and drive sustainable new business growth.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven business development, sales or account growth experience within UK Central Government or wider Public Sector.
  • Demonstrable track record of selling into Central Government departments and associated agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of selling digital services, IT services, BPO, managed services or citizen experience solutions.
  • Existing senior relationships within Central Government, including C-suite, senior decision-makers, procurement teams or policy leads.
  • Ability to develop tailored account plans and strategic engagement plans.
  • Strong understanding of government procurement processes, bid/tender activity and public sector sales cycles.
  • Experience leading or supporting complex bids, proposals and framework-led opportunities.
  • Proven ability to achieve sales targets and manage a credible pipeline.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to sell proactively at a strategic level within Public Sector.
  • Commercially driven, target-focused and comfortable operating in a competitive sales environment.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across delivery, technology, marketing and leadership teams.
